Positive Distractions –
Yes, that’s right!

Artwork ‘Don’t Disturb’
Could I wear this to the upcoming wedding?… what should we eat today? Should I paint a series of cocktails and fun drinks for summer? Wow, this idea could turn into a beautifully written article…
My mind often feels like an amusement park constantly revealing a new attraction, and I fall for it. Not every time, and some days when I feel particularly zen I can tune out and just smile about this absurd train of thoughts dancing around in my mind.
Sometimes, though, I want to go there. It sounds like a way more interesting place than the project I’m currently working on. But then I stop myself from leaning into this distraction because distractions are bad, right?
Not necessarily. Some distractions can be good. Oh yes! Positive distractions can boost your productivity and get your creative juices flowing. They can help you recharge and rest your mind.
Constructive distractions are e.g. socialising, short screen breaks, 10-15 minute power naps, meditation, or exercise.
You probably heard people say they’ve had their best ideas in the shower or during a walk in nature. When you allow your mind to wander, it might just come up with a solution to a problem you didn’t even think about at the time.
So I say – let’s get distracted – but in a constructive way!
