Take Some Time to Declutter Your Mind –
Start 2021 Lighter
We often feel compelled to clean out our closets in spring to start the season with fresh energy. A different, more introspective season like winter could be the perfect time to free your mind from old clutter.
A little guide for mental decluttering and mindfulness.
Be more mindful with your phone
You could start a more mindful habit around using your phone and computer. The first step is just paying attention to when and how often you’re grabbing your phone. Are you only picking up your device when you receive a phone call or a message, or do you gravitate towards it again and again when you’re bored? It’s good to monitor your habits and behaviours around your phone and laptop once in a while and see if you can make some changes.
Take a walk in nature
Why not head out for a walk during the day to clear your head? Best to leave your phone at home, and just take in what’s around you without any distractions. The colder season of the year often feels perfect for some much-needed solitude and introspection. Paying attention to your surroundings will make you notice things you normally don’t register.
Read a book before bed
Then, instead of watching endless YouTube videos or mindlessly scrolling on your phone, you could read a book or meditate before going to bed. Not staring into a screen just before you close your eyes will most likely improve the quality of your sleep and you’ll feel more energised the next day.
One thing at a time
Last but not least, and this is a big one for me, you could try and focus on doing one thing at a time instead of multi-tasking. This is harder for some people than others, but doing one thing from start to finish instead of jumping between five will improve the quality of your outcome substantially. Give it a try for 2021!
