Meet the Maker: Eugénie Hadinoto
Can you describe your creative work in a few sentences?
I am a pattern designer and I also teach Surface Pattern Design (SUPA). I love experimenting with different repeat types, styles, and colours and seeing how they influence the look and feel of a design.
In my work, I combine traditional surface pattern design knowledge with new technology.
What’s your favourite medium to create with?
My favourite media to create with are definitely my MacBook Pro and Adobe Illustrator. They make it so easy to try out new layouts and designs and help me realize my ideas. But I also like ink and block printing … and knitting, sewing ???? …

Do you create every day? If so, do you have a set time to create?
Yes, I do. At the moment I am working on SUPA – my online surface pattern design course and I am looking forward to having more time for my own designs again.
Do you have a ritual around creating?
No, I don’t have a ritual around creating. I have way too many ideas anyway. If you woke me up at midnight, I could start creating something – no matter what.
But I have a ritual around “not creating” – I have a file on my computer for all my ideas.
What’s your favourite part about your creative work?
My favourite part about my creative work is definitely brainstorming, doing research, and finding new ideas.
What’s your least favourite part about your creative work?
My least favourite part of my creative work is communication and selling. That´s why I usually tend to avoid this part. But both are very important for your success as a designer.
What would you tell your younger self about your creative work?
Find the best design education you can get. Create and communicate!
Do you create with a certain person/target group in mind?
When it comes to creating new pattern designs, I always ask myself: “Would I buy it?” “Would I use it?”
Where can people find you and your work?
I´m still working on creating a website with my actual designs.
At the moment it´s filled with mock-ups and simple geometric designs.
